Manitoulin Happenings February 27 - March 2

There is a winter rummage sale at the Knox Church hall in Manitowaning February 28th 10:00 to 6:00, 29th from 10:00 to 6:00 and March 1st 10:00 to 1:00 with all the proceeds going to the Knox United Church.


The Manitowaning Skating Club is hosting a fun skate skills exhibition on Thursday February 28th starting at 4:30. Admission is free. Donations of a non-perishable food items will be accepted in its place.


Mindemoya United Church is hosting a leap year luncheon, Friday, February 29th from 11:30 until 1:30. Soup, sandwiches and dessert all for $7.00 at the door.


Join in on a potluck supper and games evening at the Burpee Mills Complex on Friday, February 29th. Supper is 6 ‘til 8 with games to follow. Admission is $5 per person with your favourite dish, $8 without. This is a fundraiser for the Elizabeth Bay United Church roof repair project.


Looking for some good family fun? Join in on the Winter Fun Days in Tehkummah Friday, February 29th to Sunday, March 2nd. Activities include hockey nite, cribbage tournament, 50/60’s dance and too many outdoor activities to mention. For more information call Lorie at 859-1551 or Brenda at 859-2379.


Plan to attend another great fundraiser for the Manitoulin Islanders with the Ticklebone dinner theatre on March 1st at the NEMI Rec Centre. Join in on the fun at the 1st annual Kagawong Winter Carnival and Fishing Derby on Saturday, March 1st. The fun starts at 10:00 in the morning at Park Centre in Kagawong. Some of the fun includes a ball hockey tournament, a euchre tournament and indoor yard sale. Fishing derby starts at dawn on Lake Kagawong and runs until 4:30. Join in for the roast beef dinner on Saturday night from 5 until 7. Call 282-2593 for more details.


Make it a family day this Sunday, March 2nd (March 9th, March 16th, March 23rd). There is free public skating at the NEMI Rec Centre from 2:00 until 3:30 sponsored by the MCH Diabetes Education Clinic and the Northern Diabetes Health Network.


Little Current United Church is having their annual ham supper on Sunday March 2nd from 5 until 6:30. Adults are $12, kids 5 – 12 are $6 and kids under 5 are free. Takeouts available – call 368-2941.

Grade 8 students and their parents or guardians are invited to an open house and information session for Rainbow Secondary Schools. Join students of Manitoulin, at Manitoulin Secondary School on Wednesday, February 27th between 6:30pm and 8:00pm.

How does your backyard garden grow? Join Paul Salanki and Heather Thoma – co-creators of LoonSong Garden at Aundeck Omni Kaning Community Centre for the day on Wednesday, February 27th 9 until 3:00. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Please call 368-2182 ext 211 to confirm your attendance.
